#### BINHEX afe-appleworks-msworks.hqx ****
Date: Tue, 25 Aug 92 14:14:51 -0400
From: Scott E Maxwell <smaxwell@engin.umich.edu>
Subject: [*] AppleWorks to MS Works Translator
Someone asked me to upload the free translator for AFE that
Microsoft produced. This translator will supposedly convert
AppleWorks documents to MS Works docs. I don't know if it
will handle the databse or spreadsheet portions or not. I
have been informed that this particular translator will only
handle documents of up to 20k in size (I have not verified
that myself). It would have been posted sooner, but I had
to check with Microsoft to make sure it was OK to post it.
They said enjoy!

Here are the translators for WordPerfect that come with Word 4.00D.
These translators have been posted on other Systems, including
Compuserve, so it seems they are available free to all Mac users.
These translators require Apple File Exchange and translate between
DOS WordPerfect 4.x/5.x formats and RTF (Rich Text Format).
Microsoft products such as Word can read and write RTF files.
Note: The 5.0 and 5.1 translators cannot be used at the same time.
The Read Me file included with the archive provides more details.

Here is Alysis' Disk Expander version 1.2 downloaded from the
Alysis Vendor area on Compuserve. from the Read Me file:
The Disk Expander is a system extension. Adding it to your Macintosh
System Folder will allow you to read and use files and applications
that have been compressed by More Disk Space. You will find that
applications are much smaller in compressed form and that they require
no extra time to launch. Compressed applications and compressed
document files behave exactly as you would expect them to. Even
multi-megabyte files will open without delay and without any disk
space overhead.

Ever download a file, only to have it appear as a generic binary file?
If you transfer files with unix, IBM, or VAX systems frequently you've
probably experienced this once or twice. Normally, the solution is to
figure out the correct file type, and then use Resedit or some other
utility and manually change the file type and creator.
Binary Pump is a program which looks at file tags or name extensions in order
to convert them to the correct mac file type and creator. This program is very
easy and very quick to use--simply drag and drop and it's so fast you might
wonder if it ran at all! Binary Pump will also work for non-Drag and Drop
System 6.0.7 users.
Binary Pump is also very easy to customize and has several features which
allow the user to extract file tag information.
version 1.03
-Fixes problems with identifying binary tags.
-Gives time to background processes.

"I'm thinking of buying either Times Two or AutoDoubler. I have a Mac Classic
4/40 and I'd very much like to know if I'll experience noticeable performance
loss when these utilities compresses/decompresses in the background?"
I seems that the conclusion is that if you've got a Classic (or similar low
performance computer) you should go for an external harddrive. On other
machines your machine's performance falls of course, but hopefully you won't
notice it as much as with the Classic.

[This is a replacement for a year-old file in the archives
which was damaged.]
CptExpand 1.00 is a freeware utility to decompress Compact Pro
archives. It is written by Bill Goodman, the author of Compact
Pro. The advantage of this program over Extractor, the other
free Compact Pro decompression utility, is that it is small
enough to run in 512K of memory. However, if you don't have the
Hierarchical File System (HFS), you will need to install the
HD20 INIT in your System folder. This can usually be obtained
from Macintosh user groups or from on-line services such as
Compuserve.
CptExpand has the same creator type as Compact Pro, which allows
it to automatically open when such an archive is double-clicked
(but it should then only be used if you *don't* use Compact Pro
or Extractor).

CRLF -- a CR<->LF<->CRLF file converter
=======================================
FILE: CRLF
ver.: 1.2
Type: Application
Author: Natsu Sakimura
Date: 1994.02.21
System Requirement: System 7.0 or later
Distribution: DONATEWARE(Freeware) (see Asking your favour:
section below for terms and conditions)
Description:
------------
CRLF is a drag & drop application which performs
the conversion of CR(Mac), LF(Unix) and CRLF(PC) files. It
auto-detects the end of line code of the file which was
dropped and converts to the desired file type. Once you
have set up the preference, you will rarely need to make
any interaction with CRLF later.
CRLF converts the file "in place". The filename stays the
same before and after the conversion. You will notice that
it was converted just by looking at the icons. You can
set up these icons by specifying the creator for each type
of output file.
Also, CRLF is capable of dealing with Japanese text, unlike
some other similar utilities.
New Features:
-------------
Fixed the bug that did not process the file properly if
the input and output EOL characters were the same.
Thus, you can now use it to just change the creator.

Data Parser 4.1
Data Parser is a nifty ‘little’ stack for transforming data
from Column format to Delimited format or to change the
delimiter of your data file.
Why should you want to do that? Well, basically because the
statistical software you use wants the data in a specific
format. E.g. a certain widely used statistical package for
mainframes likes its data to be in column format, while a
widely used spreadsheet for the Macintosh wants its data in
‘Tab’ or ‘comma’ delimited format. (OK, a spreadsheet is NOT
statistical software, but it just goes as an example.)
Although most statistical software offers services for the
exchange of data between packages, usually, at least in my
experience, the one you need just isn't there. So faced with
the need to move data from a mainframe to my Macintosh, and
the complete lack of portability of the data files I
conceived, created and wrote Data Parser.
Do NOT rename data parser, at least ont function in it
relies on the fact that the stack is named "Data Parser 4.1"
Data Parser NEEDS Hypercard 2.1 or later. It has been tested
on a Classic running system 6.0.7 with 2.5 Mb of RAM and
Hypercard 2.1
Data Parser is Use ware, if you find it usefull USE it.

Subject: util - DeHQX 2.0.1
DeHQX v2.0.1 is an application to decode BinHex 4.0 encoded documents.
It will ignore all headers and comp.binaries.mac part seperators,
handles multiple encoded documents in one file, or split across multiple
files, decode files or folders of files. It runs happily in the background
with little affect on foreground processes. Its not all that fast, so
just drop the files on DeHQX and then ignore it and they will be magically
decoded.
This version corrects an incompatibility with AppleScript. Hopefully I haven't
added any new bugs, I haven't looked at this code in years. I strongly
recomend you look at StuffIt Expander if DeHQX is any use to you, since it
does most of what DeHQX does, and a lot more (and its free too).
DeHQX is free for any use (except you can't resell it). The source for
DeHQX 2.0.0 is available, I haven't updated it because the changes were
very minor.
Enjoy,

The INIT is quite old (1989) so it is no surprise it has some problems

This program should make life easier for those who are converting from
Dollars and $ense to Quicken. It converts a file with transactions
exported from Dollars and $ense to Quicken's QIF format. Source is
included. Macintosh user interface guidelines are NOT followed, but
this should be a program that you only have to use once.
This is a self-extracting archive.
This version automates more of the process than the original version
that was posted in mid-1993. It can take its input from one big report
instead of requiring a separate input file for each account. It
doesn't require hand editing of the input file. It has addresses the
problem of transactions that transfer between two accounts and that are
cleared in both.
This should replace the existing dandstoqif.hqx file in the archive.

From: mdw@cscns.com (Mike Watson)
Subject: Enigma232.hqx
Date: Sun, 10 Apr 94 20:42:12 MDT
Enigma 2.3.2 fixes problems with Enigma 2.3 and Enigma 2.3.1. If you
downloaded Enigma 2.3 or 2.3.1 you MUST remove it and use this
version instead. I apologize for any inconvenience caused by this.
Users of Enigma 2.2.1 and earlier do not need to download this
version unless you would like the many new features.
If you have already downloaded Enigma 2.3 or Enigma 2.3.1 I have
uploaded a separate updater file which is all you need to download.
To help make up for the problems with Enigma 2.3 I have added a
feature which lets you specify that encrypted files should be
invisible by default.
Enigma 2.3.2 is an application which can provide near absolute
protection for your sensitive documents and applications. By
downloading this application you can encrypt files using a limited
version of the Government Standard DES algorithm. For only $15 this
can be upgraded to the full DES standard (US and Canada only).
If you would prefer your neighbors not see your accounting data,
your co-workers not see your performance appraisal, or your
competitor see your trade secrets then Enigma is an application
you will find very valuable.
Enigma supports vaults which are like very securely locked file
cabinets. Multiple files are stored in them. Files can be added,
deleted, renamed, and extracted at any time. You can create folders
inside the vault to organize your data better. Entire folders can
be extracted in one operation. Security is much enhanced because
filenames and lengths are protected by encryption in addition to the
contents. No other free or shareware encryption program offers the
flexibility of Enigma vaults.
You can also create self extracting vaults to send to friends and
associates who do not have the Enigma application. Self extracting
vaults are stand alone applications that cannot be opened without
a key.
The main features added since version 2.2 are:
- Vaults are now hierarchical. Organize your vaults using folders.
- Stronger encryption. Full DES versions of the program now use
CBC mode for newly encrypted vaults and files.
- Full DES vaults can now contain 200 files.
- A new dialog box makes it much easier to add multiple files at
once to a vault.
- Vault windows are now fully resizeable. Size and position of a
vault is remembered for the next time the vault is opened.
- A Get Info function for files in a vault gives detailed
information about the file and allows a comment to be entered.
The comment is saved in encrypted form.
- If cancel is selected during an encryption or decryption
operation, any file that was being overwritten is restored.
- Finder flags, creation date, last modified date and custom icons
are now preserved during encryption and restored during
decryption.
- The file erase application Burn has been improved: User
selectable erase pattern, user selectable number of erase passes,
and the ability to erase free space on a disk (in case you
accidently deleted a file that should have been burned).
Enigma 2.3.2 remains fully compatible with previous versions of Enigma.
Enigma 2.3.2 requires system 7.0 or later along with about 640K of
memory and 200K of disk space. Documentation enclosed specifies
ordering information for a system 6 or earlier compatible version,
but the vault features are unavailable.
Included with the package is a program that overwrite and delete
files so they can not be recovered with a data recovery program such
as Norton Utilities (Enigma can also do this automatically if you
request it).
Enigma 2.3.2 with limited DES is completely free. No shareware guilt.

From: Greg Smith <SMITH%BKNLVMS.BITNET@forsythe.stanford.edu>
This StuffIt archive contains the MacBinary application and a MacWrite
document. Some methods of downloading MacBinary files (FTP to a Mac,
for example) can only download to the data fork of the Macintosh file.
The MacBinary program will translate such data files into their correct
components (info, data, rsrc). There is an Upload feature to translate a
Mac file into a MacBinary data file, suitable for uploading via FTP.
The True MacBinary setting is for the case of catenating the three
pieces of a MacBinary file on unix into one text file prior to
downloading. With some versions of xbin and macget, the resulting forks
on unix are not padded out to the 128 byte blocks that the MacBinary
standard specifies. Turning True MacBinary off will handle this case.
The MacBinary utility will only create True MacBinary II files for
Uploading, regardless of the True MacBinary setting. The Delete after
Download setting will delete the input data file after successfully
translating it to a Macintosh file.
This is version 1.0.1.
Please feel free to post this package on other servers. It's freeware.

MacBinary II+ is a System 7 drag&drop converter for MacBinary files. It
has no User Interface, simply drop a MacBinary file on it and it will be
decoded, drop any other file or folder on it and it will be encoded.
MacBinary II+ should be fully compatible with all current MacBinary
encoders/decoders, and extends the format to include folder hierarchies
(although no other decoder will be able to decode folder hierarchy
MacBinary files created by MacBinary II+).
Version 1.0.1 corrects a problem that stopped MacBinary II+ from
recognizing MacBinary I files. I don't normally like posting such
a minor change, but since I don't have any grand plans for the program
anyway, and since the problem is fairly noticable, I decided to post
this fixed version.
MacBinary II+ should work on any System 7 Mac. If it doesn't, let me know.
MacBinary II+ is free for any use.
Hope its useful to someone,

MacCPIO is a quick and dirty CPIO archive creator utility. The intent was
to write a program for the Mac with a Mac "look and feel" that would
generate a CPIO archive which could then be uncompacted on a Unix machine.
The inspiration behind this was things like SunTAR and the fact that I wanted
to do this at work for archiving lots of Mac source code in a Unix format.
Mostly however, I must confess that it seemed like a nifty little project to
use as a learning example in Mac programming.

From: jcstevens@mortimer.atl.ga.us
Subject: MacEncrypt 2.0
MacEncrypt 2.0 is a major upgrade to MacEncrypt 1.01, the drag and drop
encryption program for the Macintosh.
MacEncrypt will allow you to encrypt files using the "Data Encryption
Standard." Encrypted files can only be used if you know the password.
Groups of files can also be encrypted into an encrypted archive.
MacEncrypt can be placed on the desktop next to the trash can and files can
simply be dropped on top of it to be encrypted.
Features added with this release include:
o A single executable that runs on all Macs. Color will be used on color Macs.
o Archives. Multiple files can be archived in a single archive file with a
single password.
o Reusable passwords. Multiple files can be encrypted or decrypted with a
single password. Previous versions required that you retype the password for
each file.
o File shredding. Files encrypted with previous versions of MacEncrypt were
susceptible to viewing with low-level disk editing programs if the encrypted
files were kept on the same disk. "Extra Security" is now an option. This
feature will overwrite the place on disk where the encrypted file used to be
so that it will never be readable by anything.
o Archived items can be left or deleted after archiving.
MacEncrypt is shareware. The shareware fee is $10.00. The program
continues to be supported, developed and improved. Registered users are
informed of free upgrades. Site licenses are also available.

This is version 1.3 of Macify, a UNIX-end program to make your Mac downloads
turn out right. This version also includes a Mac program that does the
same thing.
It will convert between UNIX newlines and Macintosh end-of-line characters
(control-M, hex 0D). Direction of conversion (UNIX -> Mac, or Mac -> UNIX)
can be specified at the command line, and thus files can be converted
both directions.
This is useful if your UNIX -> Mac downloads, or uploads, of text files

Many people have asked on the net about converting, Word, Pagemaker,
Wordperfect, and IBM-MAC compatibilities. I recentally asked MacLink/PC what
are its new translation formats for version 7.0. Remember all codes, fonts,
styles, and graphics are preserved when you translate from program to program.
Also, all you need is a Din Serial port on your Mac to connect with an RS 232
9 or 25 pin IBM serial port (i.e. no SuperDrive is necessary to run
MacLink/PC if you use the cables and terminal emulation). Dayna's DosMounter

I recentally got the letter in response from MacLink/PC saying they have

software compatibility additions (August 1992). They also are compatible

It appears that mcvert-214.shar had long lines wrapped, which damaged
the archive's integrity; and when extracted, an invalid C file was
created. Now all lines in the archvie are 80 characters or less (tab
counts as one character).

Not Another File Filter - a comms/multi-OS environment utility.
***********************
NAFF is a no-frills, quick-and-dirty utility for converting between Mac,
Dos and Unix text file formats. Just drag the file(s) you wish to convert
over the NAFF icon, select the conversion required and the characters to
be added to construct the output file name(s) and let it go....
NAFF runs in the background under System 7 (which it requires), but in
any case is reasonably fast, so it should not often need to be
backgrounded, unless you have very large, or very many files to convert.
Double-clicking the NAFF icon will present an input file selection box
immediately for conversion of a single file.
Output files are in MacWrite text file format, still the lowest common
denominator format and readable by any text editor/word processor.
This program is free. Distribute it as you like, but only with this
documentation.
I've discovered that it has made its way across the Atlantic
by itself, and since the earliest version I released was
flawed I wanted to make sure the corrected one was the one
people could get hold of.
So here is the corrected NAFF.

This is a beta test release of Enigma for the Power Macintosh. It absolutely
will not run on a 680x0 Mac.
Enigma is a data encryption application which provides a very easy to use
interface. You can create vaults to protect multiple files. The method of
Encryption is a varient of the Data Encryption Standard with its capabilities
reduced to conform to US Export Law.
Please look for Enigma 2.3.2 elsewhere in this archive which is a fully tested
and released 680x0 version of Enigma if you either don't have a Power Mac or
aren't interested in a beta-test version.
If you are currently a user of Enigma you will find this version completely
compatible but treat a beta test release with respect. Make sure you have vaults
and files created by Enigma backed up before using Power Enigma. Your reward is
a vast speed improvement. On my Power Mac 6100 I can encrypt at 125 K/s, 10
times faster than a low end Quadra and probably around 3 times faster than an
840AV.
I'm taking the unusual step of releasing a beta version of PowerEnigma because I
don't know anyone else who has a Power Mac and feel that the program needs a
shakedown by more than its author.
Note to archivers: Please continue to make Enigma 2.3.2 available on your
archives. I will be merging PowerEnigma into the Enigma baseline with the next
release of Enigma.

June 23, 1993
This prerelease version of RIPEM Mac is available for public beta testing.
RIPEM Mac is a public key based cryptosystem aimed at providing privacy
and authentication capabilities for email users. RIPEM Mac offers encryption
(for privacy) and authentication (or digital signatures for origin
verification) using a hybrid RSA/DES approach as specified by the Internet
Privacy Enhanced Mail (PEM) standard. Also supported is an extended triple
DES encryption mode for extra security.
RIPEM Mac is compatible with the emerging Internet PEM standard, including
support for public key certificates providing interoperability with various
PEM implementations such as TIS/PEM and COST PEM available for many
platforms.
RIPEM Mac supports direct encryption/decryption from within BBEdit via BBEdit
extensions and from within most text editors and mailer programs via QuicKeys
and the clipboard. Although oriented towards the protection of electronic
mail, RIPEM Mac supports file encryption as well.
RIPEM Mac is format compatible with Mark Riordan's RIPEM, providing
cross-platform compatibility with many UNIX platforms (incl. SunOS, HP/UX,
NeXTStep, AIX, ULTRIX, Mach, Convex) and MS-DOS platforms for which RIPEM is
available.
RIPEM Mac is licensed to you free of charge for non-commercial purposes.
Please see the license agreement included for the full terms of the license.

Subject: set-aux-binary sets ty/cr to 'BIN '/'A/UX'
Date: Wed, 30 Mar 94 23:59:09 EST
set-aux-binary is a freely redistributable utility that
sets the type and creator of input files to 'BIN '/'A/UX'.
This permits binary files downloaded to a Mac partition
to be copied to an A/UX unix partition without invoking
A/UX's automatic carriage-return-to-newlines conversion,
which can cause file corruption.
usage: in the System 7.x Finder, drag-and-drop icon(s)
representing unix binary file(s) onto the set-aux-binary icon.
set-aux-binary is based on ctc 1.2 by Brian Bechtel,
with minor changes: its TextEdit boxes for user input
default to 'BIN '/'A/UX', which saves keystrokes, and
it touches the parent folder to update the Finder icons.
Note that set-aux-binary won't repair a binary file that
has been mistakenly downloaded in ascii mode to a MacOS
partition. In such cases, see the A/UX FAQ, available
on jagubox.gsfc.nasa.gov in /pub/aux, for detailed
instructions and try, try again ...

Subject: [*] TimesTwo (and comparison with other auto compression programs)
There have been some discussions about TimesTwo in the last few days and
here's my impression of the product (I originally intended to comment on
the product earlier but a project deadline kept me from doing this):
First of all, for those of you not familiar with the product, TimesTwo is a
HD formatter which replaces the existing SCSI driver with a driver that
does compression and decompression as data are written and read from the
disk. Since it's operating at the driver level and nearly all programs talk
to the HD through the driver, everything gets "compressed", and
theorectically, this process should be totally transparent (not so with any
other types of compression programs) and there should be no compatibility
problem with those programs (provided the driver is bug-free, of course).
In reality, however, this's not entirely the case (all softwares have bugs
- bug-free softwares are just not humanly possible), although TimesTwo does
fulfill most of its promises. Once installed correctly, TimesTwo does work

and the 680x0 processor version (to save disk space for non-PPC users).
The '68K' version are the same code as the PPC fat versions, so use will
only see a difference in speed if they run the 68K version on PPC.

Subject: Unsea 1.0 is here
This letter marks the formal release of unsea 1.0. Unsea is a mainframe-
level ANSI C program that removes the self-expanding code from MacBinary
encoded StuffIt(TM) or Compact Pro(TM) files.
Since unsea is ANSI C, you'll have to use an ANSI C compiler (like gcc)
to compile it. (The reason for this is that the only C referecnce book
is the 2nd edition of the K&R book, so I simply couldn't write it
as K&R C code.)
To put it on your system, get the shar file(see below for where) and
delete anything above the line "#!/bin/sh". Then unarchive it, using
"sh <filename>" for UNIX machines or your local shar decoder for other
machines. Then follow the instructions in "unsea.txt" and "Makefile"
to compile the program.
The newest version of unsea will always be available on f.ms.uky.edu,
in the /pub/mac/unix directory, as well as anyone who is on the MacGifts
list that mac.archive.umich.edu runs.
Feel free to send any questions you have about unsea to me at
rankin=irc@ms.uky.edu, rankin=irc@ukma.BITNET or rankin=irc@ukma.UUCP.

From: jjw7384@ultb.isc.rit.edu (Jeff Wasilko)
Subject: Batch Unbinhexing/Unstuffing (SUMMARY and SOURCE)
Quite a while ago, I requested info on batch un-binhexing/
un-stufing software available for the mac. I received a few
replies about this, all of them but one suggesting a solution
centered around a mainframe. One person suggested that Ray Lau's
commercial version of Stuffit might do batch work.
What I found was a trio of programs from the archives at
sumex-aim.stanford.edu in the /info-mac/unix directory. The
combination of these three programs allow almost-batch operation
(I'll get into why it's 'almost' later).
The three programs are:
-rw-r--r-- 1 macmod info-mac 54554 Jan 16 18:18 mcvert-15.shar
mcvert converts a .hqx (BinHex 4.0) file to a .bin (MacBinary
file) that can be read by unsit. This program allows wildcard
operations. Additionally, mcvert will unpack PackIt files.
Files in: *.hqx
Files out: *.bin (generally *.sit.bin)
-rw-r--r-- 1 macmod info-mac 26067 Jan 1 1989 unsit.shar
unsit will decompress .sit.bin (MacBinary Stuffit files)
I am enclosing a new version of unsit that Allen sent me to
allow input from MacBinary files. Previously, it was only
possible to input from macput/macget formatted files. The new version
also adds compatiblity with Stuffit 1.5.1 and the new HMF
folder scheme.
At present, unsit can only output files in macput/macget format,
but the author Allan Weber (weber%brand.usc.edu@oberon.usc.edu)
said that he may add the option to output directly to MacBinary format.
Files in: *.sit.bin
Files out: foo.rsrc, foo.data, foo.info
-rw-r--r-- 1 macmod info-mac 4184 Jan 1 1989 macbinary.shar
macbinary (macbin) converts macput/macget type files to
MacBinary files. This allows easy downloading with progams
such as Kermit or ZTerm.
macbin does NOT support wildcards, so this part of the
conversion must be done manually.
Files in: foo.rsrc, foo.data, foo.info
Files out: foo.bin (Unstuffed and in Binary format)
The combination of programs works very well and is extremely fast
on our vax, especially when comparied to Stuffit's performance on
a Plus.
Since this process requires the use of three different programs,
I'm writing a shell script to tie everything together. When I get
it running, I'll send it along too.
I'm including a new version of unsit that reads macbinary files.

Hi,
I just got my registered copy of StuffIt Lite 3.0.5. Inside the disk there are
a few goodies besides StuffIt Lite and StuffIt Expander like StuffIt &
Frontier, CPT2SIT(3.0.3), UnStuff/PC. The last two pieces are not in the
Info-Mac archive as I checked on Mar. 15 '93. So here is the submission for
the second one, UnStuff/PC in binhexed, (StuffIt) self-extracted format.
The following is from "ReadMe on Macintosh".
> "UNSITINS.EXE" is a DOS executable self-extracting archive that contains
> UNSTUFF.EXE. You will need to move "UNSITINS.EXE" to a DOS machine. Now you
> can send StuffIt archives to your friends who use DOS compatible machines!
> UNSTUFF.EXE enables users of DOS compatible machines to extract files and

present.
UnStuffIt is ONLY for users who send SpaceSaver files or StuffIt segmented
files to people who do not have StuffIt.
To only unstuff files found online, download StuffIt Expander instead.

After getting many requests for unpit, I had Alan Weber repost his
program. While getting these requests, many people also requested
unxbin. I don't know who the original author was, but since the
sources are not too large (~6.5K), I am reposting it here.

Subject: UULite Version 1.6 Release for the Mac
Date: Thu, 17 Feb 1994 01:15:58 -0500
I am pleased to announce the release of UULite version 1.6 for the
Macintosh. UULite is the fastest, most powerful and easiest to use
smart uudecoder available for the Macintosh.
UULite is a highly optimized, single-pass, disk based uudecoder/
encoder. Because it's disk based, it's never necessary to
adjust its memory partition to handle any file -- no matter how
large. And because of its unique smart decoding algorithm,
UULite is never fooled by non-standard "--cut here --" lines.
Version 1.6 has the following features:
* One-step "Smart" uudecoding:
- Multipart file decoding with automatic article header/footer
removal - no manual editing required
- Source file may contain multiple output files,
e.g., the source file may contain any number of gif files: all
will be decoded
- Configurable "Drag and Drop" decoding of any number of files
(System 7 required)
- "Super Smart" uudecoding for problem files.
- File Merge and Decode for decoding images from multiple input
files for news readers that don't support appending on the fly
- Straight File Merge for merging text files
* One-step uuencoding:
- Auto file splitting to simplify Usenet posting
- Auto file description insertion in first or all encoded parts.
* Smart automatic file Type and Creator stamping - user configurable
* Manual file Type and Creator editing on any file
* UNIX To Mac text conversion
* Mac To UNIX text conversion
* Help
* Usenet Read News Tutorial

To the administator!!:
** The version shipped to you contained incomplete docs and one very minor
bug in the program. These have been corrected and tested. I would GREATLY
appreciate it if you replace the current version with this one.
Thank you,
John S. Lee
Description follows
----------
UUParser 1.72 is now avaialble. This is a major upgrade to version 1.71,
with many fixes, and additional features.
UUParser is one of the easiest to use file strippers and
uuencoders/uudecoders available for the Mac. It support several different
encoding methods (mac->unix, unix->mac, AIFF->ULAW, AIFF->Linear), and is
the fastest decoder avaialbe for the Macintosh. It can operate fully in
the background (for unattended encoding/decoding of several files), and
lots more!
Here are some things you may want to know about UUParser:
UUParser 1.72 & 1.8 features
% Automatic stripping of header information from files "S"aved
from a usenet newsgroup.
% "Smart" uudecoding. Fully user configurable.
% uuencoding of AIFF (sound) files is now supported.
% uuencoding/decoding in PC, UNIX, and AIFF formats.
% User control over output file location.
% Join multiple text files for UUParsing & automatic decoding, from
the menu OR the Finder.
% Split any text file into multiple parts using the Split File function.
% User configurable preferences.
% Automatic scan of text files for anomalies.
% Drag & Drop supported via System 7.
% Parsing/uudecoding/encoding occurs in the background.
% Decodes/encodes/parses/splits/joins ANY SIZE FILE, regardless of memory!
% The FASTEST uudecoding/encoding available for the Mac!
% Many other new features added, with updated documentation!
*Version 1.72 is now the sharware version until further notice.

This is a small rewrite of xbin I have been using for months with no
ill effect. When invoked with "xbin -b" it creates MacBinary (.bin) files
instead of macput (.rsrc,.data,.info) files. There is a new man page, and
even a shell script. Using the shell script, you can "xbinary *" in a
directory full of ".hqx" files and convert them all to binary. Couldn't
get much more convenient than that!

ZipIt 1.2.6 is a full-featured Macintosh program to zip and unzip files.
It is fully compatible with PKZip version 2.0g as well as all prior
versions. It achieves compression comparable to that of StuffIt and
Compact Pro. Best of all, it sports a complete Macintosh interface.
Version 1.2.6 adds a number of often-requested features, and many bug
fixes. It also includes rewritten documentation, an AppleScript droplet
to zip files by dragging-and-dropping, and other enhancements. Users may
register by mail or by phone.
Please replace version 1.2 with this version in your archives. Thanks!
